October 16th, 2013: True Crime with Lisa R. Cohen

Error: please reset date.

After-Etan-by-Lisa-R-CohenProbably most of us recall the horrifying case of Etan Patz, a 6 year-old boy who went missing from his Manhattan neighborhood in 1979 and was never seen again. Thirty years later, May 25th is recognized as National Missing Children’s Day in Etan’s honor.

As an investigative journalist, professor, and the author of After Etan: The Missing Child case that Held America Captive, Lisa R. Cohen has a lot to share about the nature of writing about true crimes, especially when the facts of a crime can get crowded out by media sensation and what happens when one’s conclusions and research are revisited in the light of new revelations.

We’re now meeting at the Jefferson Market Library branch of the NYPL. Our meet-and-greet begins at 6pm, with chapter programming from 6:30-7:45pm, and optional dinner nearby to follow. See more details and directions at our Chapter Meetings page, and hope to see you there!
